How to read the quay
Nyhavn is one canal with two sides. Odd house numbers run along the sunny side, even numbers along the shady side. The canal starts at Kongens Nytorv and opens out towards the harbour — the map above follows that same order.
How to get here
Nyhavn has no station of its own. The nearest is Kongens Nytorv at the head of the canal, about a five-minute walk away and served by M1, M2, M3 and M4. From the airport, line M2 runs there directly in about 13 minutes.
What's right next door
Kongens Nytorv and the Royal Theatre sit at the head of the quay. Amalienborg and the Marble Church are a 5-10 minute walk north, Strøget about five minutes the other way, and Kastellet and the Little Mermaid 25-30 minutes along the water.
Directions to Nyhavn
Nyhavn is a pedestrian quay in central Copenhagen with no station of its own, so whichever way you come, the last few minutes are on foot. These are the routes.
By metro
Get off at Kongens Nytorv, served by M1, M2, M3 and M4. Walk towards the water and Nyhavn opens up at the head of the canal, about five minutes from the station.
From Copenhagen Airport
Metro line M2 runs directly to Kongens Nytorv in about 13 minutes, every 2–4 minutes during the day. Allow about 20 minutes in total. Buy a ticket for the zones you travel through before you board.
From Central Station
Metro line M3, the City Circle Line, reaches Kongens Nytorv in a few minutes. On foot it's a 20–25 minute walk through the city centre.
On foot and by bike
From the eastern end of Strøget it's about five minutes, and Amalienborg is a 5–10 minute walk north. Copenhagen is easy to cycle, but the quay itself is pedestrianised, so the final stretch is on foot.
By harbour bus
Harbour bus lines 991 and 992 stop at Nyhavn on their way along the harbour, and an ordinary public transport ticket is valid on board.
By car
Nyhavn is pedestrian-only and street spaces are few. The nearest car parks, Jeudan Sankt Annæ Plads, Q-Park Magasin du Nord and Q-Park Adelgade, are 5–7 minutes' walk from the quay.
