Getting to Nyhavn

Nyhavn sits in the heart of central Copenhagen, a few minutes from Kongens Nytorv. The easiest way here is the metro — below you'll find every option, from the airport to a bike.

How to get to Nyhavn — from Copenhagen Airport, Central Station, by metro, on foot, by bike or car. A short, independent guide.

Nearest metro station

Nyhavn doesn't have its own station. The nearest is Kongens Nytorv, at the head of the canal and about a five-minute walk away. It's served by metro lines M1, M2, M3 and M4, so it can be reached from most of the city without changing. From the station, walk towards the water and Nyhavn opens up in front of you.

From Copenhagen Airport (CPH)

The metro is the easiest way from the airport. Line M2 runs directly to Kongens Nytorv in about 13 minutes, with departures every four to six minutes around the clock. From there it's about a five-minute walk to Nyhavn.

Remember to buy a valid ticket for the zones you're travelling through before you board. Tickets are available from the machines at the station and in the DOT app.

From Central Station (København H)

From Central Station, metro line M3 (the City Circle Line) reaches Kongens Nytorv in a few minutes. If you'd rather walk, it's about a 20-25 minute stroll through the city centre.

On foot and by bike

If you're already in the old town, Nyhavn is close by — just a few minutes from Kongens Nytorv and the eastern end of Strøget. Copenhagen is a cycling city with good conditions, but the quay itself is pedestrianised, so the final stretch is on foot.

By car

We recommend public transport over driving. Nyhavn is a pedestrian-friendly quay, and parking in the old town is both expensive and limited. If you do drive, we've gathered the options on our guide to parking near Nyhavn.
