Five Christmas markets in one walk

The route runs from Nyhavn through the old town and ends at Tivoli. It is 1.9 km and takes about 25 minutes without stops:

  • Nyhavn 1 → Kongens Nytorv: 150 m, 2 min
  • Kongens Nytorv → Højbro Plads: 520 m, 7 min
  • Højbro Plads → Nytorv and Gammeltorv: 550 m, 7 min
  • Nytorv → Rådhuspladsen: 380 m, 5 min
  • Rådhuspladsen → Tivoli: 300 m, 4 min

Rådhuspladsen only opens on 11 December. If you go earlier, walk straight from Nytorv to Tivoli. Walking times are measured as walking routes in OpenStreetMap.

Nyhavn's own Christmas market

The stalls line the quay with gløgg, æbleskiver and decorations, and it's free to wander. The 2026 dates haven't been announced yet (checked 10 October 2026). In 2025 the stalls were up from 31 October to 28 December. The restaurants on the quay serve julefrokost from November: see julefrokost prices in Nyhavn, or read about Christmas in Nyhavn.

Kongens Nytorv: an ice rink two minutes from the quay

Copenhagen Winter Wonderland puts an outdoor ice rink and a winter market with food stalls on Kongens Nytorv. The organiser says it returns in 2026, but the dates haven't been announced. In 2025 it ran from 14 November to 4 January.

Højbro Plads: a new market with Greenland and the Faroe Islands

From 14 November there's a new Christmas market on Højbro Plads with Christmas traditions from Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. For children there are «talking trees» that tell a Christmas story written for the market. It's a nine-minute walk from Nyhavn.

Christiania: indoors in Den Grå Hal

Christiania's Christmas market is held inside Den Grå Hal and is open every day 12:00–20:00, last day until 18:00. The 2026 dates haven't been announced; in 2025 it ran 8–20 December. From Nyhavn you cross the Inderhavnsbroen bridge, about 18 minutes on foot.

Tivoli: the only one with an entry fee

Christmas in Tivoli opens on 13 November and ends on 3 January, closed 24 December. Entry costs from DKK 210 for everyone aged 8 and over, and DKK 230 on the busiest days. Children aged 3–7 pay half price, and children under 3 get in free. A ride pass (Turpas) costs extra. From Nyhavn it's a 23-minute walk, or take the metro from Kongens Nytorv to Rådhuspladsen.

Further out: take the metro

Frederiksberg Christmas market stands in front of Frederiksberg Town Hall on 4–13 December. Nørrebrohallen has two craft markets: RAW on Saturday 28 November and Flid's Christmas market on 11–13 December. They are about 4 km from Nyhavn, so most people take the metro.

Dates, hours and entry are taken from the organisers, Tivoli and the City of Copenhagen's Visitor Service, checked 10 October 2026. The 2025 dates are from Øresunddirekt. Walking times are measured as walking routes in OpenStreetMap from Nyhavn 1.
